What is IELTS?

The International English Language Testing System, or IELTS, is a worldwide government sanctioned trial of English dialect capability for non-local English dialect speakers. It is mutually overseen by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment. IELTS is one of the real English-dialect tests on the planet, others being the TOEFL, TOEIC, PTE.

IELTS is acknowledged by most Australian, British, Canadian and New Zealand scholastic establishments, by more than 3,000 scholarly foundations in the United States, and by different expert associations over the world.

There are different band requirements for each country, institution, organisation and candidate will need to score accordingly.

WHO CONDUCTS THE TEST?

The test is conducted by two authorities i.e.

  • IDP
  • BRITISH COUNCIL

Fee for the both is same i.e. 13,260/-

VALIDITY:

The IELTS test results have a validity of two years and you will be required to retake test beyond that time period.

Results:

A Test Report Form (TRF) is presented on test takers 13 days after their test. It appears:

  • An Overall Band Score (from 1-9)
  • A band score (from 1-9) for each area of the test (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking)
  • Regardless of whether IELTS Academic or General Training was finished
  • The test taker’s photograph, nationality, first dialect and date of birth.

Test takers get one duplicate of their Test Report Form, aside from test takers who are applying to the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) or UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) who get two duplicates. Test Report Forms are legitimate for a long time

Form:

There are two form of the IELTS Test:

  • IELTS Academic
  • IELTS General Training

IELTS TEST FORMAT:

Academic IELTS is divided into Four Sections:

Reading The test is of 60 minutes, which includes Writing Task 1 of 150 words, describing graphs, pie charts, tables, diagrams, and flowcharts. Writing Task 2 of 250 words which is a short essay type.
Writing The test is of 60 minutes in which students are tested on reading passage with tasks, graphs, content from books, diaries, and daily paper.
There are 3 passage in it.
Speaking The test is of 11-14 minutes.In this test, the candidates are carry through face to face interview, short questions, and speaking on a familiar topic and discussion.

General IELTS is divided into Four Sections:

Band Score Description:

Bandscore Skill Level Description
Band 9 Expert user You have a full operational command of the language. Your use of English is appropriate, accurate and fluent, and you show complete understanding.
Band 8 Very good user You have a fully operational command of the language with only occasional unsystematic inaccuracies and inappropriate usage. You may misunderstand some things in unfamiliar situations. You handle complex detailed argumentation well.
Band 7 Good user You have an operational command of the language, though with occasional inaccuracies, inappropriate usage and misunderstandings in some situations. Generally you handle complex language well and understand detailed reasoning.
Band 6 Competent user Generally you have an effective command of the language despite some inaccuracies, inappropriate usage and misunderstandings. You can use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations.
Band 5 Modest user You have a partial command of the language, and cope with overall meaning in most situations, although you are likely to make many mistakes. You should be able to handle basic communication in your own field.
Band 4 Limited user Your basic competence is limited to familiar situations. You frequently show problems in understanding and expression. You are not able to use complex language.
Band 3 Extremely limited user You convey and understand only general meaning in very familiar situations. There are frequent breakdowns in communication.
Band 2 Intermittent user You have great difficulty understanding spoken and written English.
Band 1 Non-user You have no ability to use the language except a few isolated words.
Band 0 Did not attempt the test You did not answer the questions.

Transformation table :

This table can be utilized to change over raw scores (out of 40) to band scores (out of 9). This helps test takers see what number of right answers they have to accomplish a specific band score.
